Manton Duhe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Millet-Guidry Funeral Home - LaPlace on Feb. 18, 2026.
Manton Joseph "Slim" Duhe passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, at his home in Garyville, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 86.

He was the beloved husband of the late Diana Dale Heltz Duhe and the devoted son of the late Jules "NuNu" and Helena (Laiche) Duhe. He was a loving father and father-in-law to Faron "Slim" and Donna Duhe, Galen Duhe, Clint and Jennifer Duhe, and Shan and Billie Duhe. He is also survived by eight cherished grandchildren: Erin (Justin), Jacob (Amanda), Amanda, Hannah, Alyssa, Ryann, Shanna, and Brock; and five great-grandchildren: Jemal Baptiste III, Dawson and Sawyer Duhe, and Brody and Ethan Shiver.

Manton was the brother and brother-in-law of Jane Heltz and the late Daniel "Lomac" Heltz; Richard "Jay" and Monica Heltz; Michael "Mickey" and the late Lotus Heltz; the late Clarence "Donald" and Roline Heltz; Ronnie Heltz; Cameron "Lamb Chop" and Beth Heltz; Geraldine "Gerrie" and Donald Laiche; and the late Nancy and Septime "Tim" Bourgeois. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He was the nephew of the late Luke Laiche and the proud godfather to Jane Heltz Duhe, Eddie Duhe, Danielle Heltz, and Loni Heltz Bourgeois.

Manton attended St. Peter School from 1946 to 1953 and later Leon Godchaux from 1954 to 1958. He had a deep and lifelong love for music, playing guitar and singing from a young age. Along with a few friends, he formed the band The Rhythm Six, performing at school functions, weddings, and parties. The group later became Slim and the Rhythm Travelers, and eventually Little Margie and the Country Swingers, where they played country music and frequently performed at the Louisiana Hayride dance hall in Ponchatoula.

Outside of his music, Manton worked at Reserve Dairy as a milkman and after hours he would help Harold "Peanut" Vicknair repair radios and televisions. He eventually went to work at Pellerin Milnor, where he dedicated 49 1/2 years of service before retiring.

In recognition of his contributions to the music culture of the River Parishes, Manton was honored with an award from the House of Representatives of the Louisiana Legislature on motion of Representative Robert Faucheux on March 10, 1997, at the State Capitol in Baton Rouge.

In retirement, he could often be found in the kitchen, coffee in hand, recording his grandchildren as they sang along with him. Later, he built a garage studio filled with reel-to-reel tapes, albums, and 45s. From time to time, he would pick up his guitar and serenade his family, filling the room with music and memories.

He will be forever remembered for his warm heart, his love of music, and the joy he brought into the lives of all who knew and loved him.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Compassus Hospice staff.
