Manuel D. Carvalho, age 79, of Methuen, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born in 1946, he was the son of the late Joao Carvalho and Gertrudes Vieira Dutra Carvalho.
Manuel immigrated to the United States in 1973 from Porto Judeu, Terceira Island, Azores, carrying with him the strength, warmth, and resilience that would define his life. He was the devoted husband of the late Noelia Maria (Pinheiro) Carvalho, with whom he shared 48 beautiful years of marriage, a bond built on love, laughter, and unwavering support.
He was the cherished father of Edgar "Eddie" Carvalho and his partner Heather Kempkes, Kevin Carvalho and his wife Elizabeth, and Gary Carvalho and his wife Courtney Lee. His heart swelled with pride for his grandsons, Antonio M. Carvalho and Nieko K. Carvalho, who brought him endless joy. Manuel also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and his dear sister Fatima Azevedo. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Noelia, and his five siblings whose memories he carried close to his heart, Arthur Dura Carvalho, Joao Dutra Carvalho, Venancio Dutra Carvalho, Jesuina Silveira, and Adelino Vieira.
Manuel served honorably in the Portuguese Army during the Angola Conflict, a testament to his courage and commitment. Raised in a family of fishermen, he found peace and purpose in the water, a passion he carried throughout his life. His veggie garden was a source of pride, and his love of food, especially dessert, was legendary among those who knew him.
A devoted Catholic, Manuel's faith guided him through life's joys and challenges. He found delight in simple pleasures: cheering for Benfica, his favorite soccer team, playing scratch tickets and Keno, taking long drives along the beach, and vacationing in Rhode Island. He was a familiar face at festivals in Lawrence, where he celebrated community and culture with enthusiasm.
Manuel's life was rich with love, laughter, and legacy. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his unwavering devotion to family, and the joy he brought to every room he entered.
