Manwell McDowell, 68, of Akron, fell asleep in death on August 13, 2025, his 42nd anniversary with his beloved wife, Brenda. Manwell was born in Akron, Ohio on December 9, 1956 to the late Winfred and Betty {Lee} McDowell.
Manwell will always be remembered as a man you could count on. Although quiet and reserved in a crowd, his family and friends never doubted where he stood or his love for them. He was a man who took great pride in his home and his cars. No matter the season, Manwell loved to be outdoors tending to his yard. Many neighbors and friends trusted him to take care of their yards as well. Everyone who knew Manwell knew how much he loved his Dodge Ram trucks. He took great care of his vehicles.
Manwell retired from Akron Public Schools after 35 years as a custodian.
In addition to his parents, Manwell was preceded in death by his brothers, Lateris "Terry" McDowell and Darrell "Lamar" McDowell.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 42 years, Brenda {Goodson} McDowell; sons, Manwell McDowell Jr. and Cameron McDowell; brothers, Victor McDowell and Andre Ferguson; mother-in-law, Georgia Goodson; grandchildren, Cameron "Cam" McDowell Jr., Mywell McDowell, and Xavier Long. Manwell will be missed by a host of family and friends. His family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Summa Health Hospice for the excellent care given to Manwell.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2025 from 11:00 am - 12:00 noon, immediately followed by a 12:00 noon memorial service with Brother Cleveland Breeding officiating at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, Ohio 44305.
