Mara Gilliland Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel - Rainsville on Mar. 3, 2026.
Mara Michelle Gilliland, age 56, of Dawson, passed away on March 2, 2026.

Mara graduated from Geraldine High School in 1987 and later attended Snead State Community College where she worked hard and proudly earned her Associate's Degree.

Mara was truly one of a kind. Known affectionately as "Red" for her gorgeous red hair, she had a vibrant personality to match. In her twenties, she married the love of her life, Kelly, wearing a gorgeous green dress that perfectly reflected her unique spirit. Together they built a memorable life and were blessed with their son, Jake Henry. Mara and her family resided most of her life in Grove Oak, where she made countless memories and lifelong friendships.

In her earlier years, Mara worked at Westinghouse and later found her calling as a teacher's aide. She absolutely loved being a teacher's aide and truly shined in that role, touching the lives of many children with her kindness and joyful heart. Mara was hilarious and always making people laugh - sometimes even embarrassing them just for fun. Her sense of humor and quick wit were gifts she shared generously.

Above all, her husband and son were her whole world. She loved them with her whole heart and never missed an opportunity to show it. Mara was a strong and resilient woman who faced many trials and setbacks in her life, yet she continued to persevere with courage and grit.

She is survived by her loving husband, Kelly Gilliland; her son, Jake Gilliland; her niece, who was like a daughter, Keisha (Travis) Hitchcock; her brother, Joey (Michelle) Davis; her nephews, Justin (Leanna) Davis and Jai (Caleigh) Davis; her chosen sister, Tina (Brad) Stone; and her chosen father, Hollis Bolton.

She was preceded in death by her sister whom she missed dearly, Kim Davis; her mother, Katie Davis; her father, Bobby Joe Davis; and her grandparents, Loy and Christine Davis.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at WT Wilson Funeral Chapel with Bro. Lawayne Levans officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM prior to the service at WT Wilson Funeral Chapel.

Mara will be remembered for her laughter, her strength, her fiery red hair, and the deep love she had for her family. She leaves behind a legacy of joy, resilience, and unwavering devotion.
