Paul Campbell Obituary
November 20, 1930 – April 7, 2025
Paul W. Campbell, age 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2025, at his home in
Gadsden, Alabama. A man of deep faith, quiet strength, and generous spirit, Paul lived a life of service to his family, his church, and his community.
Paul was born into a large and loving family and was the third youngest of eleven children. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 38 years, Virginia Campbell; his parents, Herbert and Mary Campbell; and all ten of his siblings. He was the last surviving member of his generation, a testament to a long and well-lived life.
Paul graduated from Geraldine High School before serving his country as a Corporal in the United States Army. During his deployment, he was stationed in Korea and crossed the Arctic Circle, an experience he remembered with pride. After returning home, he spent 42 dedicated years working at Republic Steel before retiring.
Paul was a faithful member of Trinity Church of Gadsden, where he found joy in simple yet meaningful acts of service. For many years, he rang the church bell before Sunday School and worship, and he loved serving as the church greeter, always ready with a warm smile and kind word.
Paul had a heart for young people, coaching 5th and 6th grade basketball and serving as President of the Litchfield Boosters Club. He made it a priority that every child had what they needed to play, never letting a lack of shoes or equipment stand in the way. His quiet generosity touched more lives than he ever knew.
At the center of Paul's life was his unwavering devotion to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Connie (Andy) Bone of Tuscaloosa, and his son, Mike (Diane) Campbell of Glencoe. His legacy of love continues through his grandchildren: Allyson Baugh (Bryan Rush), Andrew Bone (Audrey), Michael Campbell, and Patrick Campbell (Carson); great-grandchildren: Grace Baugh, Everett Bone, and Mary Strickland 'Molly' Bone; and great-great-grandson, Owen Baugh-representing five generations of love and family.
Paul Campbell lived with a servant's heart, never asking for recognition, but always giving of himself his time, his care, and his love. Whether cheering from the bleachers and sidelines for his grandchildren, tending tomatoes in the soil with his son, or proudly cruising in his beloved '56 Chevy, he made people feel seen, supported, and loved. His legacy is planted deep and will grow for generations to come.
Pallbearers are his grandsons: Andrew Bone, Michael Campbell, and Patrick Campbell; great-nephew Todd Campbell; David Smith; and dear friend Richard Dean. Honorary pallbearers include his nephews and Scott Bruton.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Paul's exceptional caregivers over the past years, Kathy Meyers and Joan Reynolds, and to his most recent caregivers: Imogene Crowder, Cathy Grogan, Haley Perkins, Edith Veal, and Laurie Johnson. A heartfelt thank-you is also extended to HCG Hospice for their compassionate care.
