Helen Waldrop Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Home and Cemetery on Feb. 27, 2026.
A celebration of life service for Helen Phillips Waldrop, 84 of Gadsden will be Monday, March 2, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Glencoe Hokes Bluff Funeral Home with Pastor George Chastain and Rolan Waldrop officiating the service. Burial will follow the service at Liberty Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until time of the service.

After a 13-year battle with cancer, Ms. Waldrop passed away on February 25, 2026 at her home surrounded by her devoted daughters. She faced cancer with the heart of a lion and a warrior's spirit.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 20 years Charles W. Waldrop, her beloved sons, Mark and Carl Waldrop, her grandsons, Dustin Waldrop and Justin and Jared Hopkins, her great grandson, Carl Dustin Waldrop, her parents, Alanzo and Lola Phillips and her brothers, James and Jack Spurgeon and Morris Phillips.

Helen leaves to honor her memory her precious daughters, Terri (David) Waldrop Nance and Sylvia Waldrop Hopkins, her granddaughters, Heather Johnson, Carla (Josh) Green, Lynsay Morales, Denise (Casey) Reaves, and Mindy McCain, her grandsons, Rolan (Harmony) Waldrop and Daniel (Martha) Nance, 14 great grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and her sisters, Imogene Wallace, Barbara Ledbetter and Sue Dalton, her chosen daughter, Tiffany Bone and her chosen granddaughter, Destiny Anderson, her chosen sister, Yvonne Moody and her closest friend, Lanis Shriver.

Helen June Phillips Waldrop was born at the foot hills of Lookout Mountain on Black Creek to Alonzo and Lola Mae Phillips. She loved spending her time gardening, going shopping with her daughters and cooking for her family. The thing she loved most to do was simply spend time with her family. She loved her family dearly.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to Dr. Charles A Leath III of UAB OBGYN Oncology for his compassion to our Mom, and for his dedication to the fight against cancer and the family would also like to give a special thanks to her friends of Holly Park for their love and support through the years.
