Marc Weinberg..

When I was 13 years old I was in search of positive male role models in my life. I met Jim (my 2nd Dad) and his friend & roommate, Marc.

Marc was certainly at the top of my male role model list.

He was funny, quirky, responsible and he had a HUGE comic book collection! I'd never seen anything like it.

Every Silver age book you could imagine from the Fantastic Four, X-MEN, Spider-Man, Thor, the Avengers.. etc, etc.. also, his love for the New (& original) Teen Titans.

I was gobsmacked!

I spent hours every night diving into the thousands of comic books at my disposal. I'm not sure I'd ever be able to convey to any of you, just how healing that was.

Marc's friendship, mentorship and comic books healed me during a rough time and to my amazement, when I turned 14 he GAVE me the collection!

A collection he'd had had since he was a little boy in the 1960s. I STILL have those comic books today.

After losing touch in the 90's, (pre cell phones) we reconnected last year. As recently as March 7th we had .y Birthday dinner together, at La TaVola in Atlanta.

As always Mark was funny and at his insistence we BOTH had Vesper martinis! He said this place made them the best.

If you get a chance try them.. he was right.

I remarked to him that he looked the same and that his energy level hadn't changed. He loved talking basketball, comic books, food.. so we did. It was wonderful.

We talked old times and thankfully.. I had a chance to tell him how important he was to me, and what I thought of him. He deflected all of that.

I could tell he appreciated it, but like many people (including myself) he had a hard time having praise heaped on him. Still, I could tell he was thankful, but he wanted to know more about me and what I was up to.

I think my answers made him happy.

I mean, I'm in a good place right now, and I know that meant something to him.

We recently texted. He said he wanted more notice when I came back into town and I told him some Advanced notice of life would help me with that..

Always the entrepreneur, He said "Let me know when you figure. that out, I'll invest in it."

Turns out.. those were the last words Marc will ever text me. They are a stark reminder that tomorrow is never promised.

Rest in peace. Thank you SO MUCH for being a mensch, mentor and a friend, when this 13-year-old boy, REALLY needed one.

Bless you, Belinda, your son, Alex and family.

So sorry to learn of Marc's passing. He was a wonderful neighborhood and Temple friend growing up. Sometime in my late teens or college years Marc and another friend arranged a fake kidnap of me and drove me all around blindfolded only to drive me back home for a surprise party for me. Marc got me good! He was a very kind person. Glad that I had the opportunity to know him and be his friend. May his memory forever be a blessing. RIP. My condolences to Paul and Lynn and the rest of their family. Thinking of you, Ellen Patterson Taranto

We were on a work-related outing at Lake Lanier. A bunch of us were waterskiing. It was my turn and when I fell, one of my skis came and hit me right in the nose and almost knocked me unconscious. I couldn't move. Marc jumped in the water with glasses and everything to save me. I reminded him often that he was my HERO!!! He was a great guy and will forever be my hero!!
