Marcel A. Langenhorst, age 81, of rural Carlyle, and formerly of Germantown, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at his home. He was born January 2, 1944, in Germantown, a son of the late Frank "Froggy" and Cecilia (nee Schniers) Langenhorst.
In addition to his parents, Marcel was preceded in death by his siblings, Gerald (Rita) Langenhorst, Margaret (George) Daiber, Dan Langenhorst, and Herbert Langenhorst; and brother-in-law, Norvin Kreher.
Marcel is survived by his children, Eva (Jeff) Johnson of Germantown and Matt (Erika) Langenhorst of O'Fallon; grandchildren, Abigail (Blake) Klenke, Victoria (special friend, Danny Bochucinski) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Owen and Mabry Klenke; siblings, Betty Kreher of Belleville, Frank (Shirley) Langenhorst of Germantown, Jim Langenhorst of Albers, Tom (Julie) Langenhorst of Damiansville, Jerome Langenhorst of Albers, Joe (Mary Sue) Langenhorst of Germantown, Vernon Langenhorst of Germantown, and Darlene Langenhorst of Germantown; sister-in-law, JoAnn Langenhorst of Alhambra; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Marcel dedicated his life to service, hard work, and his community. He was the owner of Langenhorst Construction in Germantown and later retired from the Carpenters Union Local 480 in Freeburg. His commitment to Germantown extended beyond his profession as he honorably served as mayor from 1981 to 1993. He was a devoted member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Germantown American Legion Post 325-where he served as a past commander-the Greenville American Farm Heritage Museum, and a former member of the Kernel Nut Club.
Marcel had a passion for tractors and enjoyed tinkering around the house. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and had a talent for baking delicious pies, cookies, and brownies. He found great joy in attending local high school sports events and especially his granddaughter's collegiate competitions. Above all, he treasured the time spent with his family, especially his granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown with Fr. Thomas Lugge presiding.
