Marcella "Markie" Harstine, 103, Marion, passed away at 1:30 pm Saturday March 7, 2026, surrounded by family at her Marion home. She was born in Marion Indiana to Paul and Gertrude (Holly) Spaulding February 24, 1923, in Marion. She married her first husband Philip King on August 9, 1941. After his passing, she married Kenneth (Kenny) Harstine on July 10, 1971.
Markie attended Marion Community Schools and held the record for high jump for years. She worked at Farnsworth/RCA and First Baptist Church in Gas City. She most recently attended Grace Community Church of Marion. She enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, playing games with family and friends, painting (inside and outside), playing golf, horseshoes, and she enjoyed camping. She especially loved being with family and friends. Get-togethers usually included Markie playing the piano and everyone near singing.
Survivors include her son, Richard (Judy) King, Marion; her bonus daughter, Cheryl (Jeff) Parrish, Marion; bonus son, Conrad Harstine, Marion; granddaughters, Barbara (Paula Arnold) King, Hartford City and Tammi (Bennie) Cornett, Marion. Also left behind are her bonus grandchildren, Karissa (Jim) O'Neill, Corpus Christi, TX, Aaron Parrish, Marion, and Brian Harstine, Marion; sisters-in-law, Mary and Joan Spaulding and several nieces and nephews. Markie also left behind her great-granddaughter, Cheyenne Cornett; bonus great-granddaughter, Hailey O'Neill; bonus great-grandson, Jaelyn Cruzan; great-great granddaughters, Leena and Layna Phillips, and Paisley and Kensley Watson.

Rick, condolences on the loss of your mom. She was a very sweet lady. One of the moms to all of us who grew up on south B street. Always treated us kindly. I am sure she will be missed by you and the rest of her family. She lived a long and happy life but now she can rest in peace in Heaven and join her family there.
