Marcella A. Kubicek
September 16, 1940 - January 27, 2026
Marcella A. Kubicek, age 85, of Shelby, Nebraska, passed away January 27, 2026 at Butler County Health Care in David City.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 30, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby with Father Andrew Litt officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 29 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a 6:00 p.m. Rosary at the Church. Interment will be in the Shelby Cemetery.
Marcella was born September 16, 1940 in rural Saunders County, near Touhy, Nebraska to Ignac 'Nick' Patocka Jr. and Wilma (Fiedler) Patocka. While her parents were attending a wedding reception, her mother went into labor, a doctor was summoned to the rural farmstead where Marcy was born.
She graduated from Brainard High School in 1959. She began working at the Nebraska Egg and Poultry Company in David City, which was better known as the Egg Plant. There she met her future husband Kenneth L. Kubicek, who was also employed there, They worked at the Egg Plant for approximately six years when Ken left for the Polk County Department of Roads and Marcy went to Dale Electronics in Columbus where she worked for the next 39 years.
On January 16, 1960 she was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Kubicek. To this union three children were born. They lived with Ken's mother Helen, in Shelby until they outgrew the house and purchased the Adolph Alt home. They, along with Ken's mother moved there in the 1970's. Helen passed away in 1986 and their son Steven was killed in a car-train accident, along with Steve's friend Darin Hopwood in 1987. This took quite a toll on the couple and their family but they persevered.
In Marcy's younger days and into middle age she enjoyed playing softball, bowling, gardening, playing cards, slot machines and most of all dancing.
Survivors include her children: Richard (Mary) Kubicek of Friend and daughter Cindy (Pat) Davis of Shelby; grandchildren: Courtney (Brant) Wichman, Chelsea (Ben) Joekel, Claire (Logan) Pfieffer, Miles (Abigail) Davis, Makanna (Clayton) Schmitt and Mason (Mia) Davis; great-grandchildren: Grace, Jackson, Owen and Oliver Wichman, Henry and Halle Joekel, Quinn and Nash Davis, Oliver, Heston and Lux Schmitt; brother, Eugene Patocka of David City; sister, Bernice (Gary) Stava of Seward; special friend and constant companion of the past 23 years, Kenneth Ladwig of David City; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken who passed away in 2000; son, Steven; parents, Ignac 'Nick' and Wilma Patocka; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Helen Kubicek.
Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg has been entrusted with arrangements.
