Marcella M Nixt, age 89, passed peacefully January 14th at the Floyd County Medical Center. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory, Greene, is caring for Marcella and her family.
Visitation will be held Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 3:00 - 5:00 PM at Woodley Funeral Home in Greene, with a Rosary at 4:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, January 29, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St Mary Catholic Church in Greene.
Marcella Mae Huffman was born August 27, 1934 in Charles City, Iowa. The daughter of Chester H and Alice Jordan Huffman, she soon had four younger siblings: Chester, Barbara, Dixie and James.
She married Andrew Francis Nixt on November 5, 1952 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City. After his time in the armed forces from 1953 to 1955, Andy and Marcy settled on their current homestead in Greene and raised three children: daughter Ellen Hart Beckwith, daughter Linette (Lindee) Brauer, and son Curtis Nixt. Andrew and Marcella shared 70 years together before her beloved Andy passed away in July 2022.
Marcella loved being a farmer's wife and a mom. She loved her children, cherished her grandchildren, and looked forward to the times they spent at the farm, especially attending bible school. She loved to craft (knit, crochet, embroidery, sew clothes, make rosaries, decorate cakes, make candles and lotions, upholster furniture), but her true love was always needle-work. Her home is full of intricate cross-stitched pictures, many which took hundreds of hours to complete. And she was happy to share with family and friends! She loved giving her artwork away.
She enjoyed quilting and hand-stitched elaborate, colorful patterns for each of her children and grandchildren-15 quilts! Her hand-painted quilts on the outer barn and garage doors are on the list of quilts to see in Butler County.
Marcy was a member of St Mary Church, serving on the church council, a lector, Eucharist minister, and served 20 years as President of St. Mary Guild. She was a life-long member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was the leader of St. Catherine's Circle, the Packard Club, and a coffee group. For seven years she was a Pink Lady at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital and a volunteer hospice worker. She was a Girl Scout leader for 13 years-mentoring many First-Class Girl Scouts, including her two daughters. She was a charter member of the past Greene Museum and the 2003 winner of the Greene Spirit Award for outstanding volunteer service.
In 2003, Marcella and her closest girlfriends began a Red Hat Society chapter that continues to this day. As the Queen Bee, Marcella planned elaborate parties and adventures that often included their husbands. Andy and Marcy traveled by van and tour bus across the country and to Branson, Missouri often to see live shows.
Upon her passing, Marcella and Andrew reunited with a kiss.
She is survived by daughter Ellen (husband Michael passed in 2022) and their children: Andrew (wife Miranda), Alex (wife Theresa), Scott, Dalton (partner Bryanne), Brandon (partner Kara) and Tana (husband Justin); daughter Lindee (partner Steve) and their children: Kaitlan, Kyle, Justin and Tommy; and son Curtis (wife Lynn) and their two girls: Haley, and Jenna (partner Patrick).
Marcella asked that monetary gifts be donated to Heifer International to help women establish farms to feed their families and communities.

Marcy was a customer and friend of mine for several years. She always had a smile and we enjoyed many conversations over the years when i styled her hair. She loved the Lord, Andy and her family in that order. Marcy was an avid reader and an excellent baker and cook. She had many friends and enjoyed time spent with them also. Marcy was a dear lady. She is with her beloved Andy again. Condolences to the kids and grandkids.
