Marcia Elder Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Foos and Foos Funeral Service - Bellevue on Dec. 24, 2025.
Marcia Ann (Werner) Elder, age 71, of Fremont, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, December 23rd. She was surrounded by her family and passed away peacefully.

Born on June 25th, 1954, Marcia was the daughter of James and Anna Catherine (Hershey) Werner. She grew up in Fremont Ohio, and was a 1972 graduate of Fremont St. Joe's. She was also a graduate of the Sandusky School of Practical Nursing. Married April 15, 1977, to James Elder.

Marcia dedicated much of her life to caring for others. She worked as an LPN at Countryside Continuing Care Center, E.C.I. caring for the disabled, and St. Bernadine's in Fremont, where she served with compassion, patience, and a genuine concern for those in her care. Even after leaving nursing, her desire to serve never faded, and she later spent her working years caring for Sacred Heart Church, a place that reflected her deep and abiding faith.

Above all, she cherished her role as a mother, and a grandmother. Her children, and grandchildren were the joy of her life, and she delighted in every moment spent with them. Her faith guided her daily life, offering strength, comfort, and purpose, and it shaped the way she loved and cared for everyone around her.

Those who knew her will remember her for her faith, care, love, and support not only as a person, but as a Member of Sacred Heart Parish. She loved her rosary, and would pray it daily, as it was vital to her spiritual growth. Whether it was with her husband, her entire family, or her friends, Marcia loved trips to the Marblehead Lighthouse. Her children purchased her and her husband a pathway brick for their 70th birthdays.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years (49 in April) James Elder; her children, Eric (Melissa) Elder, Katie (Michael) Riedmaier, Justin (Kim) Elder, and Sarah Elder (fiancée, Jordan Stacy); Grandkids, Alexis, McKela, James, Gabriel, Eric (Turtle), Aaron, Caden, Braxton, Colin, Anna; her brother, Greg Werner; her sister, Carolyn (Dave) DeLaserda; her niece, Stephanie (Corey) Wise; and her nephew, Nick DeLaserda.

The Nurse's Honor Guard will render honors at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 550 Smith Rd, Fremont, OH 43420, on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 8:45am followed by visitation from 9:00am until the Funeral Mass begins at 11:00am. The funeral luncheon will follow Mass, also at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Please no flowers, instead, we ask you to honor Marcia's love and legacy through donations to either The Lewy Body Dementia Association, or Sacred Heart Catholic Church, allowing her legacy to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
