Marcus A. Martinez

Marcus Anthony Martinez passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on Sunday, February 4th. He was truly salt and light to all who knew him.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Nicole Martinez, his mother Carmen, his father Pedro, his brother Peter, his sons Greg and Jason, his stepchildren Madison and Avery Schwarz, his mother in law Denise Manela, his brother and sister in law Matthew and Danielle Watson, his niece (who had him wrapped around her little finger), Brianna Watson, many aunts, uncles and cousins who adored him, and his dear church family. He also leaves behind his furry children, Sebastian, Halle, and Taco who will miss the copious amount of treats he snuck them daily.
Marcus and Nicole were high school sweethearts who reunited 30 years after they parted ways. They were married on the beach in Key West surrounded by family and friends, and later renewed their vows in front of God at their beloved Hope Community Church. Marcus' love for the Lord was the forefront of his being. He was a Deacon, was enrolled in seminary, and had plans of becoming a Pastor. He was able to start to fulfil his dreams by delivering two sermons in his church. He loved to play the guitar and started a music ministry, along with Nicole and two of his church brothers.
Marcus taught himself to paint during Covid lockdown, and mastered the skill effortlessly. His artwork adorns the walls of his home and the Church's Hospitality House. His last piece was completed in January and titled "Going Home", depicting what he believed entering Heaven looked like. He truly rejoiced thinking about entering the Kingdom of Heaven and his faith was the driving force of his life.
To know him was to love him. His smile was infectious, and his selflessness and compassion touched many lives. He leaves a beautiful legacy and will be missed beyond comprehension by all who loved him.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 17th at Hope Community Church, 109 N Middletown Road, Nanuet, NY at 12pm with fellowship immediately following. Wear your favorite colors to celebrate the life of this colorful man.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hudson Valley Humane Society or Catskill Animal Sanctuary.
