Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ellis Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Nashville on Dec. 1, 2021.
Marcus Christen Mullins, 37, unexpectedly passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 10, 2021 in Nashville, TN.
Marcus was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Melvin and Jeannie Mullins on October 9, 1984. He grew up playing in a family band with his sister, Megan, and father Melvin, performing 100-200 shows a year from age 5 on, touring the United States and all over the world - Canada, Germany, Poland, Japan, playing venues from fairs and festivals to arenas. He taught himself to sing harmony with his sister Megan in their family band at age 5. Marcus was a brilliant musician. He was classically trained for 15 years on violin and viola, was first chair Viola in the Fort Wayne Youth Symphony, and soloed with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic as a teenager. At 14 he debuted on the Grand Ole Opry with his sister Megan. He could play any style of music - classical, country, bluegrass, jazz, swing, Celtic, rock, blues, literally anything, and transition between them without missing a note. He could play any instrument, any style, without practicing or rehearsal, and still always be the best one on the stage no matter who else was playing. He once entered a dobro contest because there was a cash incentive for entering. Having never picked up a dobro before, he obviously didn't own one, and so he asked someone else he saw with a dobro if he could borrow his. He borrowed it for about 20 minutes before he walked on stage, competed, and ended up beating the guy whose dobro he borrowed. His first instrument was violin, but he also played mandolin, guitar, piano, viola, bass, dobro, banjo, steel guitar, accordion and saxophone. He also was an incredible lead singer, and loved singing classic country songs he grew up listening to. His infectious smile and personality shone every time he was on stage. He would be completely immersed in the music, play some amazing lick and smile his beautiful smile. He was a proud member of Boys in the Band, a band formed as a tribute to the band Alabama. He did shows with his sister Megan every chance he got, and they were the happiest playing music with each other, always.
Marcus enlisted in the military at age 19, serving 2003-2012, serving in the Air Force, National Guard and lastly the Army. He was a combat veteran, deployed to Afghanistan in 2010-2012, with the 1/61 Cavalry Squadron, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell. He was a proud soldier who made an impact on all he served with. He was the recipient of the Afghanistan Campaign medal with Campaign Star, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, USAF Training Ribbon, Nato Medal and Combat Action Badge, and was an Expert Marksman. He received a degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2016. He was a certified genius, and always knew the answer to every question anyone in his family ever had no matter the subject whether it was fishing, motorcycles, vehicles, science, music, horticulture, chemistry, etc. He was full of random information and facts he would pull out whenever whichever subject came up. He had the best sense of humor, and his laugh was so contagious. His personality made an impact on everyone who ever met him, he was truly one of a kind.
He is survived by his 5 children, whom he loved with all his heart - Chloe, Jackson and Lilliana Mullins (mother Pamela Mullins), Maverick Mullins (mother Bethany Mullins) and Willa Mullins (mother Paige Inbody). He so enjoyed being a father, and out of all the contributions he made in life, he told his children they were the best thing he ever created, was so very proud of them, and loved them more than anything in the world. He raised them to be unapologetically their true authentic selves, always. He is also survived by his mother and father, Jeannie and Melvin Mullins, his sisters Megan Mullins Owen (Tyler) and Tonya Mullins Garton (James), and his brother Duane Mullins (Valeri). Additionally he is survived by his niece and namesake, Elizabeth Christen Owen, along with the rest of his family.
Marcus was so deeply loved, and will forever be missed by all who were lucky and blessed enough to know him. He will forever live on in the hearts and memories of his family, loved ones and friends, fellow musicians, and fellow servicemen and women whose lives he touched. His soul is resting in peace in the arms of our Lord, home at last.

John 16:22
Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.
Romans 8:37-38 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
