Marcy Gross died on July 8, 2023. She was born in Ogden on March 12, 1978. Her life was cut short at 45 years, but she lives on in the hearts of hundreds.
Marcy held a wide variety of jobs in the food industry, working at Blimpie and McDonald's, and in the telemarketing industry, where she worked at Convergys. She was also employed as a CNA for a few years. She earned a cosmetology degree and often used her talents to cut her family's hair.
Marcy was fond of tattoos, and the ones she chose to decorate her body told the world who she was. Family was crucial to her. The names of her beloved sons, Jeremiah and Jayden, had prominent places, as did the name of her younger brother Dylan who died in 2013. A tattoo of a willow tree that grew in her grandparents' yard conveyed Marcy's love for her grandparents, Fay and Bud Perry. The importance of friendship in Marcy's life was represented by a star around her belly button, which she got with her friend Joby. Her love of nature inspired the tattoo of a lily, Marcy's favorite flower, between her shoulder blades. The beautiful dark tree on her calf brought together family and nature.
Marcy's body also displayed a medical symbol and the names of two diseases Marcy endured for her last decade, Multiple Sclerosis and Addison's. She was recently diagnosed with primary progressive MS, and her Addison's disease frequently made her blood pressure plummet to near-fatal levels.
Despite her illnesses, Marcy retained her sense of humor and humanity, and love was central to her life. She especially loved Jeremiah and Jayden and remained friends with their father, ex-husband Bin Peterson. She loved her husband Kevin, her high school sweetheart. She loved and was close to her sisters Shanan and Alyson and her mother Sally. She loved her dogs Marty and Buddy and Hildy. She loved soccer and hiking, live music and concerts. She was loyal to her friends and family and was very forgiving.
She was preceded in death by her brother Dylan Thomas, her grandparents Fay and Bud Perry, and her grandmother Rose Gross.
She is survived by her husband Kevin McKinnie; her children Jeremiah and Jayden Peterson; her brother Sean Thomas; her brothers Johnny and Jordan Gross; her sisters Alyson Frederick and Shanan Ballam; and her parents John and Jackie Gross and Sally Thomas.
Celebration of her life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden UT.
