Mardon Volney Murphy, age 89 of Livonia, Michigan, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2025, just 6 days shy of his 90th birthday.
Mardon was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 4th, 1935 to Donald Leslie Murphy and Margaret Hope (Bell) Murphy. As a young child, he moved with his family to the Detroit area. He graduated from River Rouge High School, River Rouge, Michigan, then continued his education to receive a bachelor’s degree from Lawrence Institute of Technology.
Mardon fell in love with Carol DeLee Wallace in chemistry class during high school. They were married on August 24th, 1958, in Ecorse, Michigan. They just celebrated their 67th anniversary.
Mardon worked at Great Lakes Steel starting at the age of 17 and retired as a Mechanical Engineer in 1994. He also served as a Senior Master Sergeant for the United States Airforce for 35 years, retiring in 1986. He enjoyed world travel, family trips, bowling, softball, football, and practical jokes. He participated in the Stock Club and served on several community boards including Community Focus Credit Union and Detroit Area Camp Fire Girls. Mardon volunteered regularly in his Livonia community including MADD and as an election poll worker. He was also active at his church, St. Paul’s Presbyterian in Livonia, serving as an Elder, Stephen’s Minister, and sang in the choir.
Mardon was a man of faith, a loving and devoted family man, and a man of integrity and generosity. He delighted in spending time with his beloved wife, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mardon is survived by his wife Carol Murphy and his two daughters Katherine Potter (Donald) and Karen Barsy (Richard); grandchildren, Dawn (Chris), Steven (Lindsay), Donald, Evan (Brittany), Rachel (Dylan), Beatrice, Cameron; great grandchildren, Austin, Dallas, Sean, Corbin, Christopher, Liam, McKayla, Benjamin, Wyatt, Jack, Katherine, Turner, and Finley. He is also survived by extended family and many friends.
Mardon is proceeded in death by his father Donald Murphy, mother Margaret Murphy and sister Olive Mae MacCauley.
The visitation will be held at Manns Family Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 3rd from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Viewing will be held at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church on Thursday, September 4th at 10:00 AM. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 AM.
