Obituary for Margaret Mary "Margie" Ambrose
Margaret Mary (Margie) Ambrose (December 26, 1958-November 24, 2025)
Margaret Mary (Margie) Ambrose, BSN, RN, CCM, a longtime Eastchester resident, was born in Yonkers to Margaret Mary (Knecht) & Myles J. (Joe) Ambrose the morning after Christmas in 1958. Margie was a graduate of St. Barnabas High School & received her BSN from the University of Mount St. Vincent.
Since early childhood, she wanted to be a nurse. Following her graduation from the Mount, she worked ten years in oncology & med/surg, then the Emergency Room at Lawrence Hospital. She then worked as a visiting nurse for Home Nursing Association in Tuckahoe & Visiting Nurse Association Hudson Valley. Her career ended as a Certified Case Manager for The Standard Insurance Company. She loved the one-on-one interaction with patients & made lifelong friendships with co-workers over the years, some of whom feel like members of our family.
Margie was a tea-totaler, who loved her Irish & German heritage. She looked forward to the Annual Halfway to St. Patrick's Day Parties, Irish Festivals in the Catskills, traveling to Ireland, England & France, and hanging out at The Tara. Margie had a black belt in shopping & Amazon, UPS drivers & QVC must be bewildered that orders have stopped. She loved cooking, baking & critiquing recipes with her cousin Phil McLaughlin. Their cheesecake competition will surely continue in Heaven.
The things we could always be sure of were that Margie was in with both feet when she decided to do something; she was fiercely loyal to family and friends; she was overly generous with those she loved; and she never backed down from a fight, including the last one she's dealt with since April 2024.
Margie is survived by her sister, Ellen Del Colle of
Eastchester, NY; her aunt, Caye Wheeler, Southland, TX; numerous McLaughlin, Knecht, Wheeler & Ambrose cousins; friends from kindergarten through her nursing career; & her cat, Patches.
She was blessed with comforting & loyal aides who made her life pleasant over the past year. Megan, Jen, Cara, Angela, Anna, you always brought happiness & a warm smile to brighten Margie's day. We are also grateful to supportive family members & friends. Our thanks to Dr. Angela Marcellino & Dr. Harry Zeman, and the nursing staff & Palliative Care Dept. at White Plains Hospital. Your words & kindnesses gave us strength.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Margie's name can be made to the Humane Society of Westchester, 70 Portman Rd., New Rochelle, NY 10801 (Humane Society of Westchester) or the Donald R. Broderick Memorial Scholarship Fund at Manhattan University, Office of Planned Giving, 4513 Manhattan College Pkwy. Riverdale, NY 10471 (Donald R.
