Margaret Mary Dugan, affectionately known as Peggy to her friends and loved ones, passed away gently on May 5, 2025, at 92. Born on June 17, 1932, in Manhattan, New York, Peggy's life was a rich tapestry of love, learning, and service. Her final days were spent surrounded by the warmth of her family's love.
Her personal life was marked by a loving marriage of 69 years to her late husband, Joseph, and together they raised a family that included their daughters Nancy Marie and Phyllis Ann, who preceded her in death. Peggy's legacy continues through her surviving daughters, Patti (married to John) and Justine, as well as her adored grandchildren, Jennifer Nicole (married to Mike), Ronnie (married to Cara), Jake Ryan (engaged to Kylee), and Johnny. She also leaves behind her treasured great-grandchildren, Michaela, Gavin, Cameron, and Mason, as well as many nieces and nephews who will fondly remember her generosity and courage.
Peggy graduated from Cathedral High School, an all-girl Catholic institution, where she nurtured a lifelong passion for reading and education. Her love for literature guided her through a life filled with the joys of knowledge and the pursuit of wisdom.
Peggy's zest for life extended beyond her family. She was a familiar face at the local library and hospital, where she volunteered her time and energy. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, when she could express her generous spirit through decorating, cooking, and gifting, much to the delight of her family and friends.
Her happy place was undoubtedly Long Beach Island, where she could often be found reading on the beach and making memories that would last a lifetime. She was an avid Scrabble player, a fan of TCM, and loved going to the movies. Peggy also supported various causes and organizations, including the WMCA and charities ranging from the ASPCA to Planned Parenthood, showcasing her compassionate nature.
As we say goodbye to Peggy, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest. She will be deeply missed, but Peggy's story is not one of an end, but a beautiful chapter in the ongoing narrative of her family and the many lives she touched. Her memory will be cherished forever.
A private family service will be held to honor Peggy's life. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
