Margaret M Gotto

Margaret M. Gotto, 91, of Warren passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at Saint Mary's at Asbury Ridge in Erie.
The daughter of the late Matthew and Rose Ritz Gotto, Margaret was born on January 19, 1930 in Warren. For most of her life, she lived in the family home on Madison Avenue in Warren, later spending winters in St. Petersburg, Florida, and the past six years as a resident of Saint Mary's.
A graduate of Warren High School, Class of 1949, Margaret first worked as a butcher for Zdarko's grocery store in Warren, then began working for the former GTE Sylvania, retiring in the early 1990s. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church in Warren.
Margaret was a devoted companion and caretaker of her mother. She was an avid golfer and gardener. Late in life, she astonished all who knew her with her ability to paint, signing her work, without fanfare, under the name of "MGotto." She was "Aunt Marg" to 15 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. She was quick-witted, fiercely proud of her Italian ancestry, and hard-nosed but always loving. She did it her way, "little-by-little."
She is survived by one sister, Josephine "Josie" Caprino (late husband, Tony), of Lakewood, Ohio, and one brother, Joseph Gotto (late wife, Rachel), of Santa Clarita, California, as well as her many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by four siblings and their spouses: Jane Caputy (Carmen) and Katherine "Kay" Bonace (Louis), Cosmos "Jim" Gotto (Betty), and Frank Gotto (Nancy).
Family and friends are warmly invited to call at St. Jude the Apostle Parish, 2801 W. Sixth St., on Saturday, October 2 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass there at 11:00 a.m. Margaret's Funeral Mass will be available via livestream on the St. Jude Parish website at stjudeapos.org for those unable to attend in person. Private entombment will be held at Saint Joseph Cemetery in Warren.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Saint Mary's for the friendship, support, and care they provided to Margaret. She lived the final years of her life in comfort and contentment thanks to the Saint Mary's team. Memorials in Margaret's name may be made to Saint Mary's Home of Erie, 1781 W. 26th St., Erie, PA 16508.
