SIDNEY - Margaret (Marg) Helmlinger, 97, of Sidney, passed away of natural causes on March 1st, 2025, in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
She was born on April 22, 1927, in Sidney, OH, to the late Richard A. and Mary Ellen (Halpin) Thaman. She married Richard (Dick) Helmlinger on February 11, 1950. They were happily married for thirty-seven years, until his death in 1987. Marg is survived by three daughters - Jo Ellen Helmlinger (Dave Pickut); Meg Helmlinger-Reis (Jim); and Kris (Jim) Mitchem. Marg is also survived by two granddaughters; two step-grandsons; one great-granddaughter, two step-great granddaughters; one great step-grandson; sister-in-law - Judy Thaman; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by eight siblings: Mary Raterman, Kate Thaman, Helen Myers, Dick Thaman, Louis Thaman, Ed Thaman, Eleanor Kinsella, and Joe Thaman. Marg was a lifelong member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. She was employed at Wilson Memorial Hospital as a dietary aide. Marg was blessed with a loving family, strong faith and a servant's heart. She served as a 4-H advisor for "her girls", library aide at Holy Angels Elementary School, Holy Angels High School, and Lehman Catholic High School. Marg also volunteered as an election poll worker; hospice volunteer; and most recently, she volunteered each Friday, for twenty years, at the Holy Angels Soup Kitchen. In recognition for her work at the soup kitchen, Marg was a finalist as the Shelby County "Senior Citizen of the Year". Remember Marg not for what she's done, but for how she touched your life and the lives of strangers through everyday acts of kindness.
A Mass of a Christian burial will be held on Monday - March 17, 2025, at 11 AM, at Holy Angels Catholic Church. A visitation will be held from 9-10:30 AM, on the day of the Funeral, at Salm - McGill & Tangeman Funeral Home - Sidney. Memorials may be made to Holy Angels Soup Kitchen - 324 S. Ohio Avenue, Sidney, Ohio - 45365. Salm - McGill & Tangeman Funeral Home is honored to serve the Helmlinger family.

Hi Kris,
This is Lila & Garry Millhoff your old neighbors from S. Ohio. We want to send you, your sisters & all your family our condolences for your mother"s passing. The years we lived next to you were some f the most wonderful years of our lives. You guys were great neightbor & it sure was hard moving far away to Tennessee. Do you remember thinking you were going to have someone your age live there when we moved in? It was just lil old me. Sending our love & prayers to you/your family.
