Margaret "Alice" Hornbeck, born on March 28th, 1927, in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, was sent to be with her Lord and Savior on August 25th, 2025, while in
Brunswick, Georgia. Although born in Connecticut, McIntosh County in Georgia was home sweet home for most of Alice's life. At the magnificent age of 98 years old, Margaret Alice passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of the morning. She was met with open arms in Heaven by her two sons and closest friends and family.
Alice, as she was affectionately known, could always be found with a book in her hand. Her favorite novels were western adventures and romance stories. Alice also loved her family unconditionally. All her life, she was devoted to every member of her family, including her beloved dog, Cindy, nicknamed CeCe. Alice was also one of the most organized individuals to walk this earth. She constantly kept her car, her house, her affairs, and everyone around her in order! One of her favorite sweet treats was ice cream. When her grandchildren were young, she loved taking them to Tasty Freeze in Darien, Georgia, to enjoy a delicious dessert together. Above all, Alice was always able to overcome any adversities and hard times that life threw her way.
Alice had a very rewarding life that was full of many accomplishments. She spent 10 years working for Rich SeaPak in Brunswick and Savannah, Georgia. After leaving SeaPak, Alice worked for 15 years at Altama Delta Shoe Factory, where she earned numerous awards and advanced to supervisor before retiring in 1992, having served both the Brunswick and Darien locations. In 1962, Alice pronounced her faith in Jesus Christ and came to know her Lord and Savior. Four years later, in 1968, she was baptized at First Baptist Church in Darien. This wonderful woman was also a member of Morgan's Chapel in Eulonia for twenty years.
Alice Hornbeck was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Hathaway Hornbeck and Jacob Ross Strzyzewski; her two sons, Wayne Albert Hornbeck and Furman Ray "Bud" Crews; her siblings, Ann Hathaway, Alvin Palmer, David Alling Hornbeck, Alice Marie Hornbeck, William Hathaway Johnson, and Robert Alling Johnson, and her great-grandson, Ryan Mims.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Crews Johnson; her grandchildren, David Hornbeck, Elaine Hornbeck Barrow (Lee), Christine Williams (Rodney), Robin Hulsey (Stephen); and Wendy Del'Acqua (Michael); nine great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, including one on the way; and many other family members and friends.
Alice Hornbeck was truly an amazing woman who loved her family and lived for the Lord. She left an indelible mark on all those around her, including everyone who crossed her path. While her family and friends are deeply saddened by her passing, they find comfort and peace in knowing that she is now in Heaven, reunited with those she loved and had long missed.
In lieu of flowers, Alice wished for donations to be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles. For all those who wish to attend, a memorial visitation will be held at 10:00 AM at Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home, followed by a service at 11:00 AM.
