Margaret McCarty

Margaret "Peggy" (O'Rourke) McCarty of Langhorne, PA passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025. Peggy was born to Elmer and Alice (Cunningham) O'Rourke in Turtle Creek, PA on April 25, 1950. She attended St. Colman Grade School and Turtle Creek High School. She graduated from Clarion University and then spent her career teaching and caring for students with disabilities.
Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 37 years, Ronald McCarty in June of 2023. Peggy is survived by her 2 sons, Damon (Rachel) Smith and Ryan (Dana) Smith; and was a proud grandmother to Claire Smith, Beau Smith, Sutter Smith, and Silas Smith. Peggy is the baby sister to Dorothy (Bill) Guzik, John (Anita) O'Rourke, Patty (Tom) Baldwin, and Barbara (Bill) Botti; and aunt to 10 nieces and nephews.
Peggy was known for her unending generosity and compassion for those in need. She spent her career helping autistic children, individuals with mental retardation, and those with severe learning disabilities. Her career began in Eldred, PA school district, and later at Woodhaven (Bensalem, PA) and Woods Services (Langorne, PA). She finished her career as a grade-school tutor for students near her home in Langhorne, PA. In retirement, Peggy enjoyed spending time in The Villages, FL retirement community where she and Ron made many dear friends over the years. She especially loved driving her golf cart to Lake Sumter Landing, dining at The Lighthouse, and enjoying the live entertainment each evening.
Peggy will be dearly missed by all those whose lives she touched.
