Margaret Ann (Mert) McEvoy, 84, passed away on September 30, 2025 in Oberlin, KS. Margaret was born on April 6, 1941 in Parsons, KS. When she was three years old, she and her brother Richard were adopted by Arthur and Agnes (Erickson) Thoren.
Margaret was raised on a farm south of Herndon in the Achilles area. She grew up attending one room country school houses. She attended high school in Oberlin at Decatur Community High School and graduated in 1959. After high school Margaret worked on and helped run the family farm. On June 19, 1963 Margaret married Frank Leon McEvoy at Herndon Covenant Church. To this union they added four children: Lonnie, Evan, Stan, and Dawn.
Sundays were spent attending the Herndon Covenant Church where they were devout members. In July of 1983, Frank and Margaret sold the farm and moved to Oberlin. After they moved to town, Frank continued to work at the COOP, and Margaret opened her home to care for numerous daycare children who were all very special to her.
Margaret enjoyed gardening, jig saw puzzles, sewing, attending sporting events, watching the Chiefs play football, and spending weekends camping and fishing at the lake with her grandkids. Margaret was also very musical and enjoyed singing and playing her guitar.
Margaret is survived by her children: Lonnie (Mary) McEvoy of Oberlin, KS; Evan McEvoy of Hotchkiss, CO; Stan McEvoy of Oberlin, KS and Dawn (Brian) Beckman of Grinnell, KS.
Grandchildren: Renee Jones (Wade); Alex McEvoy (Jen); Ryan McEvoy (Jasmine); Shane McEvoy (McHaley); Ethan Beckman; Jordyn Beckman; Spencer Beckman; Griffin Beckman; David Sporn (Timmarie); and Autumn Spangenberg (Lonny)
