On Friday, September 5, 2025, following her battle with cancer and surrounded by her family, Margaret Joyce Strickland Nichols, completed her earthly journey and entered into rest.
Joyce was born on January 8, 1946, in Guilford County, a daughter of the late Rev J.W. and Marie Murdock Strickland. She obtained an associate’s degree from Richmond Community College and later her bachelor’s degree from Gardner-Webb University. She retired from Epes Logistics of Greensboro. Joyce attended the Rockingham Church of God of Prophecy and had a special interest in word puzzles, music videos, sewing, and knitting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Jimmy Strickland and sister Betty Taylor.
She is survived by her son Billy Singletary and wife Michele of Hamlet, daughters Jan Owens and husband Walter and Deidre Norris and husband Marcus all of Rockingham. Grandchildren Ryan Owens, Courtney Hogan, Mark Owens, Cooper Hogan, Angelina Hammonds, Noelle Norris and Harper Norris, 6 great-grandchildren and her “special sister” Helen Messer of Canton, NC.
The family will receive friends Monday, September 8th from 5:00-7:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham, and at other times at the home of Deidre and Marcus on Double L Rd, Rockingham.
Graveside service will be held privately at Richmond County Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank Richmond County Hospice, with a special thank you to Amanda, Fretia, Susan, and Tammy, for the loving care that was given to Joyce.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 N US Hwy 1, Rockingham, NC 28379.
