Obituary of Margaret F. O'Brien
Margaret F. O'Brien passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025. Mom celebrated her ninety-eighth birthday two days prior. Born on May 6, 1927, in New York City. She was the daughter of Edward and Margaret Fagan. Marge's early years were spent in Suffern, New York. She was surrounded by a large close-knit family. Marge is predeceased by her sister Ann Murphy, and brother Rev. Edward Fagan, OAR.
As the story goes, Marge first met the man of her dreams while in the second grade. Her future husband, Robert, showed great promise and skipped second grade and went right to third. Destiny could not be denied even when separated by a row of desks. Robert showed he could handle the heavier workload. His unprecedented scholastic achievement allowed Robert to not only boast of his early brilliance but also be Marge's forever younger man. Unimpressed and like a true Taurus, Mom remained strong and out lived her sweetheart by sixteen months. Now they are together again in the comfort of the Lord's hands. Married for seventy-three years, their love story is one for the ages.
The early days of May will forever hold a special significance in our family's collective heart. Mom's birthday, Mother's Day, Mom & Dad's anniversary, the birth of their first child, and Marge's favorite sporting event, the Kentucky Derby.
As a mother, her family meant everything. Raising seven children that adored her: Robert Jr. (Deborah), Margaret (John) Pantazapolous, John, Sharon, Eileen (Thomas) Reverand, Daniel (Jane), Colleen (Robert) Toms. Her boundless love extends to her grandchildren: Robert III, Matthew, Timothy, Casey, Samantha, Thomas, Elizabeth, Charles, Myles, Cole, Sean, and Connor. Plus, extra, extra love to Nana's great grandchildren Lukas, Annika, Elara, and Molly.
Marge loved nothing more than a good 'ol family get together. The holidays were special times filled with love and song. Christmas celebrations meant an abundance of poorly hidden gifts. Her dedication often rivaled the hard work of Santa's elves. Mom loved to be surrounded by family, and she was blessed to be called Auntie Margie by many nieces and nephews. She cherished those family times, and we will always keep those memories in our hearts.
A lifetime filled with friends kept Marge and Bob's social calendar full. Trips across the country and to foreign destinations blessed them with new adventures. Back home in Duxbury and in her more recent years, Mom cherished her circle of friends. Next door neighbors Geri and Paul shared their love and friendship- thank you!
While at home or riding shotgun to Naples, Florida, Mom never strayed too far from her rosary beads. Mom's praying in silence spoke volumes about her deep faith. Saying the Rosary brought her comfort. Mom deeply appreciated all the blessings the good Lord bestowed upon her and her family.
We adored Mom. She was the heart of our family. We will miss her love and passion for family. She had a compassionate heart that was based in her strong faith in God. Mom's love had no bounds, and her heart always had room for more.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Church 601 Tremont Street, Duxbury, MA. Interment to follow at the Mayflower Cemetery, Duxbury, MA.
In lieu of flowers, please be aware our records show that Marge and Bob made frequent small donations to questionable charities. If you like, please do the same. We are grateful to Tom Murray of Holy Family Church. His visits kept Mom's faith alive. Receiving communion was truly the bread of life. A special treat and a good scratch behind the ear goes-out to Keegan!
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the caring staff of Safe at Home Homecare.
