I will always remember how we worked together as a team. That is when we really grew to know each other and became more than coworkers. Her picture in my home keeps her in my thoughts often with joy. Theresa Griffith

I always liked Peggy. I delighted in working with her.
But it wasn´t until I learned that she had passed on that I realized I not only liked Peggy. I truly loved her.
I worked part-time at AACR for many years. And one of my responsibilities was to work on the Proceedings under the direction of Peggy.
It was a project that could drive any sane person insane. It involved juggling about a jillion abstracts, working with temps who ranged from good to horrendous, and handling more other factors than I can name.
But Peggy handled it all with aplomb. She was patient, cheerful, imperturbable, efficient beyond belief.
Plus, she was just such a cool person!
If I loved her this much, I can hardly imagine how much her family must have loved her. My heart goes out to you. The obituary described her as "cuddly" with children, a fact I can totally believe.
Peggy, I can´t pretend to know God´s thoughts, but I have an instinct that He must love welcoming someone like you to be with Him in heaven!

I had the pleasure of knowing Peggy from AACR. Though we didn't work together directly, we had many occasions to interact. She was incredibly sweet, kind, and had a fantastic sense of humor. I will miss her.
Please know that I am keeping all of Peggy's family and friends in my thoughts and prayers.

Peggy was my supervisor at the AACR for 10 years. She was a very understanding and kind person who always had a smile on her face. We traveled to together for work to many locations in the country. On my first trip to San Diego, I had left my notes on the plane. Peggy and our colleague Kelly watched as I ran back onto the plan as the security or attendants were chasing me saying you cannot do that. Both Peggy and Kelley were cracking up. It was a fond memory I will always laugh about when I think of Peggy.
Peggy was not only my supervisor, but my friend as well. She comforted me when I was going through tough times and gave me advice often. I cannot tell you how much I will miss Peggy. The world has lost a beautiful soul.

We at the American Association for Cancer Research are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear colleague and friend, Peggy Pickels. She was a major contributor to cancer research throughout her long career, and her work was appreciated by the Board of Directors, staff, and the patients we serve. Our sincere condolences go to the family and friends on the loss of a wonderful woman who has enhanced our lives with her love and presence. Marge Foti, CEO, AACR.
