Margaret Pons Obituary

Margaret Elaine Pons, known as Peg, Grandma, Grammy, and Ma to those who loved her, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025, in Aiken, SC. Born in Providence, RI, on January 24, 1938, Peg lived a full and meaningful life, touching the hearts of all who knew her. Peg was a brilliant, beautiful, independent woman who inspired her children and grandchildren to love fiercely, face adversity with courage, cherish friends near and far, and see the world through a lens of hope, laughter, and a strong dose of healthy skepticism. Peg was happiest reading (sometimes through the night!), playing golf at Palmetto with her husband Tom, spending time with the BLT, and serving South Aiken Presbyterian Church in a variety of roles over the years. Peg was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Thomas Jenkins Pons, her daughter, Lisa O'Brien, her granddaughter, Evy Accardi, her sister, Angela Moseley and her brother, Domenic Cimini. Left to honor her memory are her daughters and sons-in-law: Angela and BJ Clifford of Aiken, Phyllis and Mark Berlacher of Charlotte, NC, and Marlene Pons Tiernan of Port St. Lucie, FL; her grandchildren, Thomas and Sarah Gallik Berlacher, Emory and Nic Waddell, Lydia Accardi, Margaret Clifford and Quinn Clifford; her great-granddaughters, CJ Gallik and Laken Waddell, as well as her siblings: Marlene Mancone, Matthew Cimini, Mary Ann Morritt, and Billy Cimini. A memorial service to celebrate Peg's life will be held at South Aiken Presbyterian Church in Aiken, SC on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 3:00pm. Those wishing to honor her memory may make donations to the Freedom to Read Coalition through the League of Women Voters, PO Box 8453, Columbia, SC 29202 or online at my.lwv.org. Arrangements are being handled by The Historic George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave SW, Aiken, SC 29801 (803) 649-6234. My heart was heavy learning of Peg's passing. She was always an inspiration working beside her at SAPC. My prayers will be with all family and friends on May 23rd and throughout your grief journey. A special blessing during this Easter season is the hope we have received from God in His Son's resurrection. May Peg rest in peace with her beloved Tom.
