Margaret Workman Proehl, 79, of Concord, VA, went home Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Randolph Health in Asheboro.

Margaret was born in Sweetwater, TX, raised in Mt. Pleasant, NC, and was a longtime resident of Cedar Falls, NC. She was a graduate of High Point College and was a retired school teacher with Randolph County Schools working at Ramseur School and Southeast Randolph Middle School. Margaret was a member of Cedar Falls United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling, meeting new people, and shopping, but Margaret's biggest joy was her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Dillard "Jack" Workman, Jr., her son, John Dillard Workman, III, and her parents, Walter and Helen Richardson Nance.
Survivors: husband, Merlyn "Whitey" Proehl, of Concord, VA, daughters, Dr. Susan Workman Chappell, and husband, Dr. Larry Chappell, of Asheboro, Genia Fontaine, and husband, Dr. Timothy Fontaine, of Greensboro, Tami Christopher, of Houston, TX, grandchildren, Patrick Fontaine, of New York, Lauren M. Layton, of Charlotte, Allison C. Layton, Esq., of Asheboro, Julia F. Layton, of Asheboro, Sarah Workman, of Ramseur, and daughter-in-law, Rhonda Workman, of Ramseur.
