We are so heartbroken to announce that Margaret Ann Quinn (Honti) died unexpectedly on September 4, 2025, in her home. We are deeply saddened and shocked by her sudden death.
Margaret is survived and profoundly missed by her loving husband of 19 years, Brian Quinn. He, Slinkie, Cowbear, and Manford will keep her spirit alive in their stuffed animal guild. She will always be cherished and remembered by her mother, Mary Kay Honti. Her memory will forever live on in quotes from childhood-favorite-movies shared by sister, Theresa Honti, and brother in-law, Jeremy Freeman. "Sanka… ya dead? Want to kiss my lucky egg?" Margaret will live in the hearts of her mother-in-law, Marie Travaglini, and sister-in-law, Colleen Parcero. Margaret was predeceased by her father, Paul Honti.
Margaret was born in Houston, Texas, but moved to Wellsville, NY when she was nine. She spent her childhood playing war in the woods, illegally "investigating" the local landfill for toxic waste after hours, and endlessly tattling on her sister. Margaret graduated from Wellsville High School in 1999, alongside her lifelong best friend, Danielle Johsnson-Kutch, whose parents, Nancy and George Johnson affectionately refer to her as "daughter #4".
Margaret and Brian's shared experiences with brain tumors brought them to summer jobs at Camp Good Days & Special Times. Brian was the lifeguard in charge of the pool, and, citing her fear of fish, Margaret spent the majority of her time with him, as opposed to lifeguarding at the lake. While no one can deny Margaret's ichthyophobia, Brian suspected there were other motives. Sure enough, they began dating, and married in 2006.
In 2003, Margaret graduated cum laude from Alfred University, with a B.A. in communications. Nowhere felt more like home than sitting on the lawn by the castle on the hill, "nestled away 'neath the Empire State hills". She pledged Alpha Kappa Omicron sorority, and forged lifelong bonds that solidified into family over the years, particularly with her "big sister", Kendra Albertson (Stratton). Margaret had an enthusiasm to see her sisters as often as she could, and there was no shortage of annual events to bring them together. Whether it was Thanksgiving at Kendra's, St. Patrick's Day at Penny's, summer parties at Tracy's, Italian Fest at Jessica's, or Alumni Weekend at AU, Margaret attended them all. She will be deeply missed by generations of the AKO sisterhood.
After graduation, Margaret and Brian lived briefly in Vermont before settling in
Clifton Park, NY. Here they erected a community of love and support built by individuals from Starpoint Church and their trivia team, as well as many good friends, including her closest: Grace Halligan. The thing that really stirred Margaret's coffee was church. She was "bit by a big blast of Jesus love", as Brian says. She was very involved in the community and got a lot of comfort from the members inside it.
In addition to church, some of her greatest joys came from children. Margaret was a devoted mentor to two of them. She lifted up young Tavyn with guidance and encouragement, and wrapped her arms around little Lexi as if she was her own. Her love and snuggles will also be missed by nephew-dog Hugo, and niece-chickens, Mrs. Schmouse, Toot, and Junie. Margaret was also an honorary aunt to many children, who she read to and snuggled with at every opportunity. Only two of these children, Sabina and Madelyn, were technically nieces, which is a testament to the family she built for herself. She was the namesake of Margaret Jean Kutch ("Mini Mar") and Gabriel Quinn Albertson, godmother to Daniel King, Jr., and honorary aunt to Anthony, Peyton, Julianna, Michael, Liam, Molly, Ruby, Kadison, TJ, Marcy, Brooke, Sadie, Jasmine, Abigail, Julian, Chelsae, Hillary, Maya, Mason, and many others.
Though Margaret was private about her own struggles, she carried an open heart to people in need. She offered empathy, encouragement, and comfort, with no hesitation. Margaret's warmth, kindness, and genuine care for others, left a lasting impression. She was the kind of person who found beauty in the everyday and gave generously of her time and spirit.
Margaret's story is one of love, resilience, and joy. Though she left this world too soon, her legacy will endure in the countless lives she touched. And because she carried her own burdens quietly while lifting others high, her strength and selfless love will be remembered as her greatest gifts.
Services will be private, but a celebration of life is to be announced at a later date.
Donations can be made to The AKO Awards at the Judson Leadership Center, Alfred University, or a charity of your choosing in Margaret's name.
