William R. McCarthy, 64, affectionately known as "Uncle Bill" to his family, formerly of Syracuse, NY and Ballston Spa, NY, peacefully entered into eternal life on Monday, September 15, 2025.

Born in Syracuse, he was the son of the late Robert and Mary Johanson McCarthy and was a graduate of Onondaga Central High School.

William had been employed at Saratoga Hospital until 2009 when he had to retire due to disability.

He is the beloved brother of Margaret F. Phillips, better know affectionately as 'My Little Brother Billy.' The cherished "Uncle Bill" to Jerry Phillips, Nathan Phillips and Samantha (Kyle) Rossi. Adored "Great Uncle Bill" to Elliana Rossi who was eagerly anticipating the birth of his Great-Nephew, Giovanni Rossi,

He loved dogs, cats and caring for people less fortunate than himself. He loved his peanut butter cups, soda, chips and dip.

His hobbies. interests, and attributes included sports, in particular, football, basketball and baseball. He knew the players names and where they came from. He was an avid fan of Syracuse University sports teams. He also loved his cars.

Relatives and friends are invited to and may call upon him at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 RT-9, Clifton Park, NY 12065 on Friday, September 19, 2025 from 12 Noon to 1:00 p.m. where at 1:00 p.m. there will be a Funeral Service offered by Pastor Amber Craig of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Clifton Park.

His family would like to extend their most sincere appreciation to the staff of Wesley Nursing Home for care while a resident. A special thank you to Jessica Mulcahy for your special bond with Bill and always having an open line of communication with his family.
