Margrett "Elizabeth" Rountree, 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 5, 2025. She was born on September 22, 1941, in Portsmouth, Virginia, to the late Katie and John Rountree. Later in life, she made New Jersey her home.
Margrett was a devoted caregiver whose kindness, quick wit, and sense of humor touched everyone she met. She had a gift for making people laugh, often sharing jokes that could light up any room. Her love for baking especially decorating cakes was well-known among her family and friends. She also enjoyed family game nights, working on jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with her granddaughter, great-granddaughters and great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Jesse Lee Rountree; her sisters Ethel May (Nathaniel) Riggins, WillieMae (James) Slaughter and Dorothy Lee (Ernest) Lawrence; and her brothers Arthur Rountree and Johnie (Carolyn) Rountree Jr., and her best friend Dawn "Rama" Jefferson.
Margrett leaves to treasure her memory: her sister, Eileen Rountree, granddaughters; Sadonna Hatfield and grandson in law; Shontrell Hatfield, leera Bronson and Yazzieer Bronson; great-granddaughters; Yantinique Slater, Zahira Hatfield, Azyari Hatfield and Zaniyah Slater; one great-grandson Kyro Slater; her favorite nieces, Andrea Rountree and Glince "LadyBug" Royal; sister-in-law; Joan Rountree and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Her family and friends will forever remember her laughter, her warm heart, and the joy she brought into their lives.
