Of Shadyside on Thursday, December 23, 2021, age 98. Beloved wife of the late William J. Shanley, Sr. Wonderful mother of William J. Jr., (the late John Hill), Kevin P. (Megan), Peggy Guckes (fiancé Danny Eisel), Patty Hoachlander (Shayne), and Stephen G. Shanley (Lynn); grandmother of Christina Shelton (Willie), Karl Guckes, Caroline Stein (Ronnie), Michael Guckes (Amanda), Kelsi and Conor Shanley, and Laurel Hoachlander; great-grandmother of Mikey Guckes, Kalilah Stein, and Aidan and Maria Shelton; sister of the late Matthew Gorman, (survived by Kathleen), Jack Gorman (survived by Jean) and Jim Gorman (the late Betty); also survived by nieces and nephews. Peggy, known to her family as "Nan", was a devout Catholic who had a great love for the Blessed Sacrament and a devotion to Blessed Mary. She had a lovely singing voice and was frequently asked to sing, particularly her Irish favorites, at parties and other events. She sang in the Sacred Heart Church Choir and gave service, comfort and joy to others her entire life. Regrettably, there will be no public visitation due to ongoing Covid concerns. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Jude Parish, Sacred Heart Church, on Tuesday at 1 pm. Interment private. The family looks forward to a Celebration of Peggy's life at a later time.
