Margaret "Marti" Jean Thornton

Margaret Jean "Marti" Thornton, 68, a resident of Buda, Texas, was called to rest with her family by her side on Wednesday, January 31, 2018. Margaret was born on October 29, 1949 in Austin, Texas to Willard Lonnie and Maudie Lea Pannell. She was a lifetime resident of Austin and graduated from William B. Travis High School in 1968. She went on to pursue a career in Cosmetology in 1976 and owned and operated Marti's Family Hair Design for the next 40 years. Margaret was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many people. She held her family and large group of friends very dear to her heart. Her beautiful smile and loving nature will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Margaret had a love for gardening and spent her summers tending to her greenhouse plants. She devoted much of her time and energy as caregiver to family members, including her mother who passed away at 79. She also enjoyed live music and dancing to country music. Margaret is survived by the love of her life for the past 27 years, Kenneth Simpson; brother, Willard Pannell; daughters, Yvette Benoit, Brandi White (Steve) and Amy Layton (Chris). She was a loving grandmother to Branden, Heather (Josh), Ryan, Reese and Levi. She will be missed by many additional family members and close friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Brent Collier Benoit; sister, Darlene Arnold and brother, Terrance 'Skipper' Pannell. Our family wishes to thank the Seton Hays Oncology and Pulmonary Clinics, particularly Dr. Shetty, Dr. Goodgame and Dr. McCurdy for the loving care provided over the past two years, as well as numerous nurses and staff at Seton Hays Medical Center. We also wish to thank the many friends and extended family for all the love and support shown over the past couple of months. You all hold a special place in our hearts. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 pm on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 S. Congress Ave., Austin, Texas 78704. Plans for a Celebration of Life party are underway and will be announced soon.
