Margaret Jean Wegner, 87 of Midland, passed away on December 26, 2024 at MyMichigan Health Center. She was born to the late Edward and Edna (Hind) Willerton on January 18, 1937 in Argyle, MI. She married the love of her life John D. Wegner on April 26, 1958 and they shared 56 loving years together till he preceded her in death on December 9 2014.
Margaret attended school in Argyle where she was able to skip two grades because of her academic performance. She the attended the Bay City School of Business and retired from Midland Public Schools as Director of Transportation.
Margaret grew up with a love of pheasant hunting and spent countless weekends tromping through the woods partridge hunting with groups of kids. She loved deer hunting on the farm in Argyle.
4-H was always a big part her life along with many clubs, organizations and the fair. She was the president of the Midland County Fair for 44 years up to her death.
I wish I had the space to list all the families, kids and wonderful people she touched and was allowed into their lives but I don't. She loved you all.
Margaret is survived by her children; John Wegner, Ann Wegner, Dee Dee (Brian Kruger) Wegner. Grandchildren John Matthews, (Brittney Matthews), Emma Matthews, (Ethan Oldham). Great grand children Oliver Matthews, Willow Matthews. Brother Jesse and Ruth Willerton, sister Ervin and Mary Hollingsworth. Sister-in-law Nancy Nielson, Don and Dorothy Debolt and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her brother Kieth Willerton and sister Deloris Willerton.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on January 4, 2025 at Smith-Miner Funeral Home with Pastor Carl Trosien officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00am until time of service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider something for a child. She would love that.
