Wichmann Funeral Home - Downtown AppletonChuck Wegner, age 97, died peacefully on October 27, 2025. He was born in the small town of Everly, Iowa, on December 3, 1927, graduating from Everly High in 1945. He was always proud of his high school - the Everly Cattlefeeders - and loved to tell stories about his hometown.
Chuck enlisted in the Navy and served from 1946 to 1948. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1951 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He and his wife, Jean, met at Iowa State and were married shortly after his graduation.
His first job was with Union Carbide in Elizabeth, N.J. Two years later, Chuck and Jean moved to St. Paul, MN, where Chuck took a job with 3M. In 1960, he took a sales job with 3M in Dallas, TX. In 1964, Chuck left 3M and moved to Appleton, where he worked for Appleton Coated Paper Company (Appvion) until his retirement in 1987.
When they moved to Appleton, he and Jean knew they had found their true home. They loved raising their family here and cherished the opportunity to be a part of the community.
Jean and Chuck had five intelligent, independent, beautiful daughters, whom he loved deeply.
Mourning his passing are his daughters, Kathy of Loveland, CO, Julie (Mark) of Denver, CO, Martha (John) of Sioux Falls, SD, Susan of Livingston, MT, and Liz of Aurora, CO, as well as nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Rather than touch on his many talents and accomplishments, Chuck would be proud to know that he left us with special memories of our own. He lived life fully. He loved competition and never refused a challenge - whether it related to his work life or his personal life. He was quick-witted and multi-talented. He had a deep love of family and friends.
He was a volunteer at LEAVEN for almost 20 years, and cherished this time as one of the most satisfying activities of his life.
A memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 AM on November 21, 2025 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 724 E South River St, Appleton, WI 54915 with a memorial service to follow at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to LEAVEN or to the church in honor of Chuck.
Special thanks to all the staff at Touchmark in Appleton, Wisconsin, for all the loving care they provided in his final years.
