Margaret Wirkus, age 90, of Clark, died Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Avantara in Lake Norden surrounded by family.
A visitation will be held Monday, April 1, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Furness Funeral Home in Clark. Private family services will be held later followed by interment at St. Boniface Cemetery of Clark.
Margaret Nell Harper was born on September 24, 1933 to Cloyd and Grace (Lee) Harper in Bradley, SD. She grew up on a farm near Lily, SD. When she was twelve years old, she was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witness and has always kept her faith to Him.
She attended school in Lily and graduated from high school in 1951. She married Louis J. Wirkus on July 17, 1951, at Webster and to this union, eleven children were born. They lived in Sioux City, IA. In 1952, the couple moved to a farm near Clark where Louie worked for twenty-nine years.
They moved into Clark in 1981. Margaret worked at the Clark bakery, in various cafes, the nursing home and Clark school kitchen. Margaret loved to bake and always baked for her growing family. In the early 90's, she started a baking business in Clark and baked for many businesses and individuals.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Louis, sons, Stephen, Daniel and David, and two brothers.
Grateful to have shared her life are her daughters, Linda (Mike) Helkenn of Raymond and Margie Wirkus of Clark, sons, Bob (Sandy) of Summerset, Tom (Kim) of Clark, Ed of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Harley (Julie) of Rapid City, Kevin (Mindy) of Lake Poinsett, and Jeff (Shari) of Watertown, many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and one brother, Don (Betty) Harper of Watertown.
