Margarett Ann Starns Villars
August 17, 1931 – June 21, 2025
Margarett Ann Starns Villars, passed quietly from this life on June 21, 2025 at her home in St. Francisville, Louisiana surrounded by family. She was the remarkable age of 93 years and ten months.
Margarett, "Margie", was born in Midway, Texas in August of 1931 and began a grand adventure lasting throughout her life. She was the middle child of three girls to native Texas parents. Her early life was a robust east Texas rural farm environment. She married young and immediately began what would grow into a large family of seven children. As the wife of a career military man, she experienced living many places as her family grew. Margarett was a career woman a generation before many glass ceilings were shattered. She was truly one of the remarkable hidden figures blazing professional trails for future women, most notably, her daughters! Her career blossomed despite the constant mobility of a military family. She embarked upon challenges including credit manager, personnel manager, real estate assistant, key punch operator for the US government at NORAD, USDA contracting officer at LSU, and capped off her professional journey as a contract officer at Johnson Space Center for NASA in Houston. Margie was larger than life to her children and to those who knew her best. She embraced life with robust passion and her enthusiasm permeated those she encountered. She loved life and fully engaged with it! She lead a life of great value.
Margarett is preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Patrick Villars, her son, Mark Steven Villars, and her son, Peter Matthew Villars. Surviving Margarett are her remaining five (5) children, Patrick Louis Villars (Krista), Margarett Ann "Peggy" Villars Abadie (Don), Mary Kelly Hyatt (Mark), Deborah Lynn Canale (John), and Elizabeth Morgan, DVM (Bill). Additionally, Margarett leaves a rich legacy of 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, AND 2 great-great-grandchildren!
Family and friends are invited to join us as Margarett is laid to her final rest on Monday, June 30, 2025. Visitation will take place at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 11485 Ferdinand Street, St. Francisville, LA at 9am followed by funeral Mass at 10am. Interment will take place at 11:45am at Roselawn Memorial Park, 4045 North Street, Baton Rouge, LA. Margarett's life was a rich and earthy tribute to vigorous engagement in any challenge or opportunity that her life presented. She only knew to embrace what was before her and she infused those she loved with the same inability to quit. She was a living example of picking up her bootstraps and carrying onward and upward!
