Margarette Slade Harris, 92, of N Dinwiddie, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. Born in Virginia on April 22, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Robert Thomas and Marjorie Noon Slade. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Littleton “Boochie” Harris; her son, Mitchell Harris; and her brother, Richard Slade.
Margarette was a devoted member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Dinwiddie, VA, where she faithfully read scripture every Sunday for Sunday School. She served as the office manager for her family’s business, Harris Auto Repair in Colonial Heights, VA. She was an active member of the Dinwiddie Diamonds, Reams Ruritan Club, and participated in the Dinwiddie Triad. In her free time, she found joy in reading, solving word puzzles, and writing poetry. She also cherished her regular dinner outings with a dear friend. A talented crocheter, Margarette lovingly crafted and donated hundreds of lap robes to local nursing homes, sharing warmth and kindness with those in need.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Harris Langster; son, Michael Harris and wife, Pollie; daughter-in-law, Darlene Harris; granddaughter, Marie Andrews Grant and fiancé, Kevin Ivey; grandson, Will Andrews and wife, Kristin; four great-grandsons, Charlie Grant, Harry Grant, Josiah Andrews, and Jack Andrews; sister, Almeda Slade Lanier; very dear friend and companion, Morris Horne; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834, with Pastor Sadie Hawthorne officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in honor of Margarette Harris to Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 12715 Acorn Drive, N Dinwiddie, VA 23805.
