Margarida Silva Reis

The family of Margarida Silva Reis is sad to announce that she entered into eternal rest on September 1, 2025 at the age of 81 years in Modesto, CA. Margarida was born in Faja de Sao Joao, Azores on April 12, 1944 to Pedro and Amelia da Silva. She was the youngest of 12 siblings, who grew up in their small village by the ocean. In the Azores she worked as a teacher and telephone operator, she enjoyed her early years in the Azores being surrounded by her family and close friends. She immigrated to the United States in 1968, where she lived in the Central Valley for the remainder of her life. She worked alongside Luis on the dairy, did all the bookkeeping, and raised her children with pride. Margarida had an excellent head for numbers and amazing memory. Her many nieces and nephews remember her as the Tia who recalled everyone's birthdays and always called each one on their special day. She would call her children and grandchildren at the exact time of their births and sing them "Happy Birthday" every year. As of recent she was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church in Modesto, but was a member or Our Lady of the Assumption Church and Sacred Heart Church when she lived in Turlock. Margarida is survived by her son, Anthony (Melinda) Reis; daughter, Melissa (David) Alvares; and her six grandchildren, Luke Reis, Matthew Reis, Grace Reis, Madalyn Alvares, Ariana Alvares, and Isaac Alvares. She was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse, Luis Reis; her daughter, Melany Reis-Abernathy; and her 11 siblings. Visitation will take place on Saturday, September 13 at 9:00 a.m. with the rosary and funeral mass to follow beginning at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Turlock. Following the service, Margarida will be laid to rest at Turlock Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers please make any donations to Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church.
