Margarita Pérez Berrios Obituary

Published by Forest Lawn - Covina Hills on Aug. 20, 2015.
Margarita Pérez Berrios, 84, born January 24, 1931, in Comerio, Puerto Rico, passed away peacefully in Covina, California on August 20, 2015. Margarita was an amazing mother. Motherhood was the only career she aspired to and she mastered it with dignity, strength and grace. Margarita was resourceful, she did not allow limited resources keep her from maintaining a beautifully decorated home and turning leftovers into gourmet meals, she mastered DIY home decorating long before any cable channel arrived on the scene. Margarita was self taught, English was not her first language but she persevered in mastering it in order to ensure that her children could avail themselves of all that New York had to offer. Visits to museums, cultural events and concerts were frequent and meaningful. Margarita was a loving disciplinarian, disrespect was never tolerated in her household yet each child knew that they were loved unconditionally. She was determined to give her children a better life than she had, she wanted them all to attend private catholic schools even if that meant she had to scrub floors at night so she would be home when they got home from school, yet she never missed a PTA meeting or any of her children's events. She modeled a work ethic that inspired all of her children to achieve success in their respective careers. Margarita taught her children that animals were a part of the family and should be treated with love and compassion. Margarita is survived by her five devoted children: Gennie, Felix, Luis, Margarita, Marisol, and one precious grandson, Thierry Mouren. Given her great love of animals, the Pérez family asks that In lieu of flowers you please consider a donation in her name to: spcLA 5026 W.
