Margie Mae Gaston- English Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Howard K. Hill Funeral Services - Hartford on Dec. 22, 2025.
With great sorrow, yet deep gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of our beloved Margie M. Gaston-English, who gained her angel wings on December 10, 2025, at her residence in East Hartford, Connecticut, surrounded by her loving family. Margie was 81 years old.
Margie was born on April 16, 1944, in North Carolina, to the late Thomas Jack Gaston and Lila Reed Gaston. She was the second youngest of six siblings: Tessie Gaston, Marcellus Gaston, Jerry L. Gaston, Dora Gaston-Cook, and David J. Gaston, Sr.
At the age of 16, Margie was brought to Hartford, Connecticut, by her first cousin, the late Eva Bennett. There, she later married her first husband, Richard King. Margie eventually moved to Paterson, New Jersey, to join her sister Dora, where she lovingly raised her five children. In later years, she returned to East Hartford, Connecticut, where she remarried and spent the remainder of her life.
While in East Hartford, Margie pursued her education and became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), dedicating herself to caring for others with compassion and dignity. She built a strong sense of community, always giving of herself and nurturing those around her.
A woman of remarkable faith and an adventurous spirit, Margie devoted her life to serving God and spreading His Word wherever she went. She was a devoted member of First Cathedral Church in Bloomfield, Connecticut, for over 20 years, where she joyfully served and answered her calling into ministry. Helping those in need was not simply something Margie did-it was who she was.
Margie cherished traveling, caring for her family and friends, and giving back to her community. Not a day passed without her speaking of how much her children and family meant to her. Her family was, without question, her greatest achievement and deepest joy.
Though her time on earth may seem too short, those who were blessed to know her understand that the love she shared and the legacy she leaves behind far exceed the years she spent with us and will remain the foundation of her family for generations to come.
Margie is survived by her loving children: Vera R. Gaston, Wayne S. King, Doris King, and Joyce Childs. She is now reunited with her beloved son, Raymond King, Jr. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins all of whom carry forward her legacy of faith, love, and strength.
A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt until the very end, Margie will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
