Margie Phillips Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 15, 2025.
Margie Flowers Phillips, lovingly known as "Nana," age 70, of Lee, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on November 13, 2025, holding her husband's hand and surrounded by family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Margie will be remembered for her unwavering faith and the warmth she brought to every heart she touched.
Born on June 19, 1955, in Suwannee County, Margie was the daughter of the late Retis Clenton Flowers and Nellie Flowers. She was the cherished sister of Retis Flowers Jr., Jack Flowers, James Flowers, Betty Fortner, Lenora Pate, and Martha Woodman, and she was preceded in death by her brother John Flowers.
On April 1, 1972, she married the love of her life, James Phillips Sr. They spent their entire marriage living in Lee, Florida on the family farm. Together they raised four children.
Margie's life was one guided by faith, family, and service. A proud lifelong member of Midway Church of God, she dedicated over fifty years to her church community. She shared her love of music as the church pianist and poured her heart into teaching Sunday school. Even as her health declined and she was unable to attend services in person, Margie continued to ensure the music was ready for Sunday mornings-a testament to her steadfast devotion and sense of responsibility.
Once her children were in school, Margie began what would become a fulfilling career at North Florida College. She served there for over thirty years, a tenure that reflected her reliability, diligence, and quiet strength. Though her work meant a great deal to her, Margie always said that her true calling was at home. Being a wife to her beloved husband, James Phillips Sr., and the mother of four children-Joyce Aitcheson, James Phillips Jr., Jason Phillips, and Jed Phillips was the center of her world. When she became "Nana," her heart overflowed with joy. She had thirteen grandchildren Julia Slaven, Zachary Slaven, Jessica Milliron, Jodi Phillips, Jamie Phillips, Tiffany Childers, Rebecca Phillips, Jed Phillips Jr, Emmie Phillips, Georgia Phillips, Isaiah Phillips, Bryce Baldree and Kayleigh McIntosh. She also had five great-grandchildren, Bo Milliron, Hudson Milliron, Whitlee Phillips, Roman Slaven and Trey Baldree. She often said that being a nana was the greatest blessing of her life, and no title meant more to her.
Margie's family will remember her as a woman strong in faith and gentle in spirit. She had a knack for leading without demanding, a quality she described best herself-she wasn't bossy (unless needed), she simply had GREAT leadership skills. Her loved ones will forever cherish her wisdom, steadfastness, and ability to bring calm in times of storm.
Though Margie lived a life of humility, her legacy is profound. She made sure her church was always ready for worship, her workplace ran smoothly, and her family was deeply loved and guided by her example. Every act of service, every kind word, and every note she played on the piano were reflections of a life well lived and a faith well-kept.
Margie is survived by her husband, James Phillips Sr.; her children, Joyce Aitcheson (Worrell), James Phillips Jr. (Samantha), Jason Phillips (Dawn), and Jed Phillips (Kiersten); her brothers and sisters; and her treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the joy of her later years.
Margie Flowers Phillips's passing leaves an irreplaceable space in the hearts of those she loved, but her spirit endures in every melody of faith, every memory shared, and every life she touched with her grace and devotion.
