Richard "Doyle" Phillips

Richard "Doyle" Phillips, age 80, of Shelbyville, Tennessee, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at his home, surrounded by family, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on January 16, 1945, in Shelbyville, Doyle was the son of the late Ernest Wise Phillips and Gertrude O'Neal Phillips. A devoted member of First Baptist Church, Doyle faithfully served his community for 21 years with the Shelbyville City Fire Department, retiring with honor.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Zena Norris Phillips; daughter, Rhonda (Shannon) Leverette of Unionville, TN; grandchildren, Jessica Leverette and Jake (Fallon) Leverette of Shelbyville; and great-grandchildren, Liam, Luca, and Kiera Leverette.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Rasnick officiating. Burial will follow at Cothran Cemetery in the Rover Community of Bedford County. Visitation with the family will begin at 11:00 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers include Johnny Overcast, Wayne O'Neal, Anthony O'Neal, Kenneth Wessner, Hershal Thrasher, and Caleb Doak. Honorary pallbearers will be Doyle's fellow firefighters-past and present-from the Shelbyville Fire Department.
