Margot Caroline Burris, 91, of Whitehall, passed away Friday, August 15, 2025. She was born August 30, 1933, in Cadillac, the daughter of Ernst and Hannah (Pyko) Sommerfeldt.

Margot graduated from Cadillac high school in 1951. She was an excellent typist and worked at several secretarial jobs before taking a job for the State of Michigan, Department of Mental Health at Oakdale Center in Lapeer, where she retired after 26 years.

She married Robert Burris on January 27, 1968 and enjoyed 52 years of marriage.

She enjoyed traveling, shopping, knitting and crocheting, reading her bible and time spent with family. Margot was a wonderful Christian and a member at Calvary Bible Church in Lapeer.

Margot is survived by: her sister, Ellen (LD) Hesselink of Marion, MI; her daughter, Cindy (James) Gertiser of Whitehall, MI; sons, James (Denise) Campbell of Columbiaville, MI; John Burris (Beth Powers) of Plattsburgh, NY, and Matthew (Denise) Burris of Humble, TX. She had 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, along with several nieces, and nephews.

Margot was preceded in death by: her husband, Robert Burris; parents, Ernst and Hannah Sommerfeldt; brother, ArthurSommerfeldt.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 20, 2025, in Dawn Memorial Cemetery, 1569 S Elba Rd, Lapeer, MI 48446.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Bible Church, 923 S. Main St, Lapeer, MI.
