Margot Gisela Hefferen

Margot Gisela Hefferen, a beloved partner, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, at her home in Wauconda, Illinois. She was born on May 14, 1954, in Kiel, Germany, to Heinz and Gisela Hertel. Margot's life was a remarkable tapestry woven with love, joy, and a sense of adventure.
Margot was preceded in death by her parents, Heinz and Gisela, and her cherished husband, James C. Hefferen. Her memory, however, will live on through those she leaves behind. Margot is survived by her longtime partner, John Bishop, who, along with his son Robert 'Bobby' Bishop (Stephanie), daughter Brenda Bishop and an adored grandmother to Brenda's children Robert, Conrad and Isabella Meyer, who brought her immeasurable happiness. Margot cherished her role as a sister to Pete Hertel (Diane) and was a beloved sister-in-law to Joan (Chuck) Lowy, Jan (Daryl) Snowden, and Jane (Neil) Graham. She was a proud aunt to numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will greatly miss her vibrant spirit.
Margot had a zest for life that was contagious. She was passionate about sunsets, often found spending tranquil hours on the lake, where she enjoyed boating and gathering with her beloved friends and family. Her love for nature was matched only by her compassion for animals, as she generously supported various charities, including Paws Chicago, reflecting her deep commitment to animal welfare.
For 22 wonderful years, Margot and John shared a beautiful life together, filled with laughter, love, and countless cherished memories. Her infectious smile and kind heart touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Margot's legacy also includes her dedicated service to the community; she loved volunteering at Wauconda's American Legion 911, where her warmth and kindness greatly impacted many.
Margot Gisela Hefferen will be remembered not only for her compassion and generosity but also for her vivacious spirit and love for life. A private funeral service will be held in honor of her life.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the wonderful team at St. Croix Hospice and dear friend Agnieszka Czyzowicz-Sliwiak who Margot stated "I didn't what I did in life to deserve a friend like Aga, she's is the best person and friend I've ever met" for their compassionate care and support during Margot's final days.
As we say goodbye to Margot, let us carry forward her love for sunsets, her passion for nature, and her unwavering kindness towards others. She will be missed deeply and remembered fondly by all who loved her.
