Marguerite Leona Griswold

Marguerite "Leona" (Arrison) Griswold, 98, a lifelong resident of Wethersfield, CT,
passed away peacefully on April 5, 2024 exactly how she wanted: at home and surrounded by her beloved family. Born on February 19, 1926, to Harry L. and Marguerite (Welch) Arrison, Leona lived in the same home built by her father for most of her life. A 1944 graduate of Wethersfield High School, she worked in insurance until she married Howard, her loving husband of 49 years. Leona was not afraid to roll up her sleeves and get dirty, whether shucking bags of corn for freezing, helping out at the annual tag sale in Saybrook, or camping on road trips around the country. A long-time member of the Rocky Hill Congregational Church, she was also an avid vegetable gardener who loved to travel and spend time with her friends, many of whom were like family. Leona was a headstrong and fiercely devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and best friend. She made the best applesauce and delicious holiday meals. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Leona leaves behind son and daughter-in-law Peter H. and Lisa B. Griswold of Rocky Hill, CT, three granddaughters: Kristen Jennings and husband David of Long Beach, CA., Lauren Palmer and husband Eric of Rockfall, CT, and Chelsea Robinson and husband Christopher of Manchester, CT. "Big Grandma" also leaves behind five great-grandchildren – Isla, Annie, and Vivienne Jennings, Scarlett Palmer, and Scott Robinson – whose visits and video calls brought her tremendous joy over the last 6 years. She is predeceased by her parents, husband Howard, and childhood best friend Phyllis Fowler.
Leona's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her wonderful caregivers over the years, who helped make it possible for her to stay in her home. Thank you to Bianca, her hospice nurse, and a very special thank you to her caregiver Rose, who has been a source of comfort and joy to us all.
Calling hours will be Saturday, April 13, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd. Wethersfield, CT. Immediately following, funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. at the Rocky Hill Congregational Church, 805 Old Main St, Rocky Hill, CT 06067. Burial will follow in the Wethersfield Village Cemetery, Wethersfield CT. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Rocky Hill Congregational Church.
