Marguerite Jones Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Allen G. Madison's Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home and Flower Shop - Dallas on Jan. 16, 2026.
Marguerite Jones, the cherished matriarch who served as the glue of her family, passed away leaving a legacy of faith, order, and unconditional love. Born on July 1, 1947, to Harvey and Helen Smith, Marguerite's life was a testament to the power of family unity.

A proud graduate of Dunbar High School, Marguerite was a woman of remarkable character. She was famously "sweet but firm"-a disciplinarian who led with love and deep devotion. Marguerite kept journals of her prayers for a lot of us gathered today and handwritten scriptures as she read the bible. Her greatest mission was ensuring her children remained close and supported one another, a bond that remains her greatest achievement.

Marguerite believed in dignity and pride. Her children fondly remember that every holiday meant a brand-new outfit, and she famously reminded them, "Y'all may not have everything y'all want, but what you have I'm going to keep it clean!" True to her word, her home remained a pristine sanctuary of order, even as she opened her doors to help care not just for her own, but her nieces, nephews, and the children of dear friends.

She was a devoted wife who cared for her husband of 35 years, with tireless love until his passing in 2001, always teaching her children the importance of honoring and respecting their father. While employed, Marguerite took immense pride in her work at Southwest Airlines, where she approached her duties with the same excellence she brought to her home.

She is remembered as a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, but her most treasured titles were wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. As her family navigates life in 2026, her legacy of warmth and strength lives in every heart she touched.

She is survived by her children: Daughters, Kathy Jenkins (David), Tanya Evans (Larry), and Son: Christopher Jones. Grandchildren: Breonna, Devoreaux (Heather), Daveon, Brayshun, and Braymond. Great-Grandchildren: Nyah and Demarco Jr. She also leaves her beloved sisters to cherish her memories, Shirley Clayton, Lois Henderson (William) and brothers, Michael Smith (Cindy) and Tracy Smith, and a host of nephews and nieces. Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents Harvey and Helen Smith, her beloved husband, Aubrey Jones Jr, her son Tony Jones, and her daughter Theresa Jones. Also, by two brothers: Albert Earl Smith and James Ray Smith and three sisters, Rosie Jane Matthews, Frankie Woods, and Denise Manning.

Although I didn't have the privilege of knowing you, your sweet daughter, Tanya, is my beautiful friend. Reading your life story, I now see your legacy continues to live in the earth. Praying God's peace to consume the entire family! He is always near the brokenhearted.
