Shirley A. Jones, 85, of Cambridge, formerly of Lehigh Acres, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at her home.
She was born April 10, 1940, in Summerfield, daughter of the late Chester Bates and Edith (Tarleton) Bates.
Mrs. Jones was an administrative assistant with A.I.M. Engineering for many years. She was an avid Ohio State football fan and loved all sports.
She was a member of the Lehigh Church of Christ which she helped established and became the secretary and treasurer, and a current member of the New Concord Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert A. Sheets and Raymond R. Jones. Also deceased is a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Wilma Bates; a sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Carroll Guiler; a niece, Vickie Gardner; and a nephew, Michael Bates.
She is survived by a daughter, Melanie Barton of Royce City, Texas; her grandchildren, Erin, Chris, Elana, James, Alan and Kim; her great-grandchildren, Jaden, Emily, Alexander and Jaime; three nieces, Sherry (Jim) Meredith, Lisa (Mike) Crawford, and Theresa (Stu) Swinehart; a nephew, Ken (Mimi) Bates; several grandnieces and grandnephews; and several special friends.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, from 11AM-12PM at Thorn Black Funeral Home in Cambridge, with the service to immediately follow with Evan. Terry Townsend officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Lehigh Church of Christ, P.O. Box 1601, Lehigh Acres, Florida 33970, or Hospice of Guernsey, P.O. Box 1165, Cambridge, Ohio 43725.
The family would like to give a special thanks to her caregivers, Denise, Jessica, and Coleen, and Hospice of Guernsey for the care and compassion they provided.
