Peggy was born in the Bronx, New York in 1939 the middle child between her two brothers. The meat in the sandwich as she would like to say. She graduated first from Cathedral High School in in 1957 and then Hunter College in 1961with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics, both schools in New York City, New York. Upon graduation she joined IBM as a systems engineer for the 1401 computer system.
In 1962 she met her future husband Jack on a blind date arranged by his cousin Sandy. They married in 1966 after Jack left the Navy and had joined Wakefern Food Corporation. They first lived in Parlin, New Jersey for three years, then received the break of a lifetime when Jack's company transferred them to San Francisco in 1968. They lived in San Francisco for nine months, then moved to Lafayette in August 1969, just before the birth of their first daughter Jennifer. Second daughter Julie was born 4 years later. With her husband Peggy lived in the Lafayette/Moraga area until March of 2025 when they moved to Byron Park Independent Living in Walnut Creek.
Despite enduring the disabilities brought on by Multiple Sclerosis, first diagnosed at age 22, Peggy accepted her condition and lived her life to the fullest. She raised two very active daughters, learned to drive at age 31, an active member of St. Monica's Church in Moraga where she became a Eucharistic Minister and headed up the Linen Society for several years. She eagerly took on a new role as Grandmother for her two Grandsons Noah and Nolan, presented to her by daughter Jennifer. Peggy was very proud of her Irish heritage making several trips to visit relatives still living in the village where her father was born and grew up in County Roscommon. Also visiting relatives from her Mother's family in county Kerry. Peggy's love, strength, bravery and unshakable faith in God was an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
Peggy is predeceased by her Father Patrick Flynn, Mother Marguerite Glover Flynn, brother John Flynn and brother George Flynn. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jack, daughters Jennifer (Greg Duff), Julie Northrup, Grandson Noah Baldwin, Grandson Nolan Duff, Cousin Sandra Kallman, Sister in law Natalie Flynn and Sister in law Beverly Flynn plus many cousins, nieces and nephews both in the United States and Ireland.
A funeral Mass will take place on December 2, 10:00am at St. Monica Catholic Church in Moraga. She will be laid to rest at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Peggy's name to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, 375 Kings Highway North, Suite B, Cherry Hill, NJ, 08034.
