Haverhill: Maria T. (Rivera) Alvarado, 95, a longtime resident of Haverhill, died peacefully on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Mary Immaculate Nursing and Restorative Center in Lawrence. Born in Cidra, Puerto Rico, Maria was the daughter of the late Ignasio and Rafaella (Guzman) Rivera and attended local schools. She came to the United States and settled first in Jersey City NJ and later lived in Lynn, Massachusetts before moving to Haverhill forty years ago.

A housewife and homemaker, Maria was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed maintaining a warm and inviting home for her family. She was a kind woman and a longtime and devoted member of Saint James Parish in Haverhill.

Predeceased in 2017 by her loving husband of sixty-seven years, Americo Alvarado, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Patty Alvarado of Atkinson, NH, and Albert and Channa Alvarado of Plaistow, NH, five grandchildren William Alvarado Jr, and his wife Jill, Vanessa Alvarado, Maria Alvarado, Jazmin Alvarado, Americo Alvarado, Scott Bouchard and his wife Jess, Deanna Fetty and her husband Kevin, and Timothy Bouchard and his wife, Lauren, and several great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their heart-felt thanks to Altagracia, whose dedication, friendship and loving care brought comfort, dignity and compassion to Maria for many years. They would also like to thank Beacon Hospice and their dedicated staff for their kindness and compassion during Maria's final days.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Maria's Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at 10 a.m. in Saint James Church, Winter St., Haverhill, MA. A private springtime burial will take place in Atkinson Cemetery, Atkinson, NH. Funeral services are under the direction of Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, Plaistow, NH.
